On a scorcher of a day we lost the toss and were forced to bowl. Some fine opening bowling by DC and Mush meant we did well to contain the openers to a meagre total by the break. Lack of wickets, however, aided by some truly dismal dropped catches by the sags meant that Kingsford were able to open the throttle and pushed up their scoring rate toward a respectable total. Overall, the Sags bowled respectably but with a terrible conversion rate in the catching department (nod to Doc, for a screamer down low) were unable to exert any pressure on the Kingsford batsmen.

The run chase did not start well, with Dipn attempting to launch one over mid-wicket early and losing his stumps for 3. DC batted well and was unfortunate to hit a pokey drive too well, caught at mid-off. Some cracking timing by Saggy new-blood Hutch saw the run rate pick up before he was caught and bowled for 20. After losing “Treasure” Hunt soon after, the sags looked fragile, but a gutsy century partnership between Sam and Jimbo gradually restored some hope of a saggy victory.

Jimbo eventually went down swiping, caught at gully, and with time running out, it was tip-and-run stuff from Bolly and Doc to whittle down the runs required. It came down to a tight last over, and with two balls to go and scores level Sam got a gift of a ball from the Kingsford captain and sent it over the square-leg boundary. A hard-earned win for the sags and a great start to 2010.
